Introducing CZEAUTSVKPOL: a weekly adventure through the top two leagues of Czechia, Austria, Slovakia and Poland
I am
delighted to announce that a new blog format from me will be coming your way
for the next year and (hopefully) beyond. In case you’ve missed my recent announcement,
in a few weeks I will be moving to Brno for a teaching job. Two years ago today,
I left Glasgow for the last time, and if I’m being honest, life hasn’t been the
same since.
I had moved
back to Stevenage as a temporary measure while looking for teaching jobs abroad
back in 2020. I found something in Jeju, South Korea, but it ultimately fell
through due to the Covid restrictions. It got to the point I couldn’t wait
forever – I needed money more than anything. Add a failed relationship and a
dreadful season for Stevenage into the mix, and the last couple of years have
been pretty torrid.
Though
challenging, 2022 has been a great deal more enjoyable – I’ve seen a 400%
increase in countries visited (500% if you include Jersey, 600% if you include
my train briefly passing through a part of Poland). Ultimately, it has given me
a newfound hunger for life that I’d been sorely lacking since graduation in
2019.
I travelled
to Brno in March for a multi-city trip including Brno, Vienna, Olomouc, Prague,
Zilina and Bratislava. I’d been at my hotel in Zilina when I’d received a job
tip from a friend, which I applied to without a second thought. Before
travelling out to Brno, teaching abroad hadn’t been on my radar, but the job
tip felt like a life-changing moment. It turned out to be just that.
Now as I
start to get myself ready to head out to Czechia, I’ll be taking a look back at
the grounds I’ve already done, namely Sigma Olomouc and MSK Zilina. I may even
give a sneaky mention to F91 Dudelange of Luxembourg, who I’d been able to
visit in May. I know they don’t fall under the CZEAUTSVKPOL banner, but I’m
sure you’ll forgive me for that.
So stay
tuned for the first of many at some point this week, which will be centred
around my trip to Olomouc back in March.
